Overview
CT RailTime is an app that helps you check train times, buy tickets, and read service alerts for Connecticut trains. This policy explains what the app does and does not collect, and how the data is handled. We have tried to keep it short and clear.
CT RailTime is an independent app. It is not operated by CT Rail, the Connecticut Department of Transportation, or Amtrak. Ticketing, payments, and your rail account are run by the CT Rail system, and that system has its own privacy terms that apply when you buy or manage tickets.
What we do not collect
We built CT RailTime to hold as little of your information as possible.
- We do not store your CT Rail username or password. Your login credentials are entered and verified by the CT Rail system, not kept by us.
- We do not store your payment or credit card details. Card data is entered into and handled by CT Rail's own payment system.
- We do not track sensitive personal data, build advertising profiles, or follow you across other apps and websites.
- We do not sell your data to anyone.
What we collect
To run the app, we work with a small amount of information:
- Account email. The email address for your CT Rail account is stored on our servers so we can identify your account and keep you signed in.
- Sign-in session. When you log in, the CT Rail system returns a session token that keeps you signed in. We hold this token so you do not have to log in every time. It expires after a set period and is removed when you log out. It is not your password.
- Device identifier. The app creates a device ID that the CT Rail system needs to verify your tickets. It is tied to your device, not to your name.
- Saved routes. Favorite trips you add are stored so they are ready the next time you open the app.
Data held by CT Rail
Your personal information and payment card data are stored and managed by CT Rail's own servers and payment provider, not by CT RailTime. This includes details such as your name, contact information, billing details, card numbers, and your ticket and purchase history. When you buy, activate, refund, or manage a ticket, the app passes your request to the CT Rail system, and that system handles and stores the result under its own privacy terms.
How we use data
We use the limited information above to sign you in, show your trips and tickets, remember your saved routes, and keep the app working. We do not use it for advertising and we do not use it to identify you beyond what the service needs.
Location
If you open the map and allow location access, the app uses your location to show where you are. Your location stays on your device. It is not sent to us and it is not stored. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings.
Crash and error data
When something goes wrong, the app sends basic crash and error reports through a monitoring service so we can find and fix bugs. These reports describe what failed, such as the screen and the error message. They do not include your password, your card details, your ticket contents, or your location.
Sharing
We do not sell your data. We share information only in these limited ways:
- With the CT Rail system and its support service, to carry out requests you make in the app on your behalf, such as logging you in, showing your tickets, buying or refunding tickets, and submitting a data and account deletion request. This can include sharing your account email so the request can be matched to your account.
- With a crash and error monitoring service, to keep the app reliable, as described above.
- If required by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of users and the public.
Retention
Sign-in sessions expire after a set period and are removed when you log out. Saved routes stay until you delete them or remove the app. If you delete your account, your account record and saved routes are removed from our servers, and a deletion request is sent to CT Rail for the data they hold. Crash reports are kept only as long as needed to fix problems. Data held by the CT Rail system is kept under that system's own terms.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect the limited information the app holds, including encrypted connections between the app and our servers. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
Children
CT RailTime is meant for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we will address it.
Your choices
You can log out at any time to end your session, delete saved routes inside the app, and turn off location access in your device settings. For personal data and purchase history held by the CT Rail system, use CT Rail's own account tools and privacy contacts.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app. Open More, tap Delete Account, and confirm. This permanently removes your account record, your saved routes, and your sign-in sessions from our servers, and signs you out on your devices.
Your CT Rail account, tickets, and purchase history are held by the CT Rail system, not by us. When you delete your account in the app, we also send a data and account deletion request to CT Rail so they can remove the information they hold on their end. Deleting your account cannot be undone.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted in the app or on this site.
